Help Save Monterey Park Tennis Courts!

Parks and Recreation is being lobbied by two pickleball commissioners to expand PB to more tennis courts. Their plan is all the courts at Barnes and 2 more Courts at Elder Park. Read how you can save tennis in Monterey Park and make your voice heard in our city! While we support the healthy activity of Pickleball we don’t support the expansion of pickleball on our already crowded tennis courts.

At the last commissioners meeting we had so many tennis supports attend to voice their personal story of how much tennis means to them and urge the commissioners not to move forward on the expansion. I was espcially proud of the kids that showed up with their parents because the practice tennis on the courts.

There were only tennis people who showed up and the city read 34 emails from people who support tennis and oppose pickelball lines on tennis courts. NO pickelball emails were sent in. In spite of all the tennis support and everyone sharing their heart, the two biased Commissioners Peter Linn and Gary Lau who are PB leaders and do not support tennis outnumbered the one additional commissioner. Even though these two “leaders” are supposed to represent the people, they voted all these people down to their face and passed a motion to expand pickleball. #PoliticalCorruption

I am still so very thankful to my friends and send love times infinity to everyone for their support. I won’t let their corruption stop us.

After the meeting two of our tennis players attended the City Council meeting two days later and spoke directly to the Mayor. He promised that nothing would be done until they finished the survey of the master plan.

WHAT WE CAN DO

FILL OUT THE MASTER PLAN SURVEY: You do not have to be a resident to fill it out. You don’t have to play tennis to side with us. Please fill out the survey and in the final note section write your opinion of what the city should do with the tennis courts and how they need to get creative and find additional space for the PBers. The one sport should not interfere with the growth and enjoyment of another.

Here is the city flyer. Scan the QR code on your phone or use the link they provide. THIS IS SO IMPORTANT if we are to protect our tennis courts!  Make sure to tell them that you WILL NOT VOTE for City Council Members or City Officials that approve the expansion of Pickelball on Tennis Courts.

We will keep updating this page with news and info as I hear it so keep checking back!

UDPATE June 7th 8am

A few fellow tennis players attended the MP City Council meeting. They both spoke at the meeting and expressed their concerns regarding Tennis/PB play at Barnes Park. They shared what happened at the comissioners meeting and mentioned that two of the commissioners who advocate PB play at Barnes Park and that their vote should not have validity. The Director of Recreation Robert Martinez was present and mentioned that the master plan is still moving forward. NO LINES WILL BE DRAWN ON COURT THREE for now. The Director told us that we all need to participate in the survey for this master plan.
